Originally from the Midwest via Southwest Florida, award winning artist Chad Smith (b.1970) currently resides in New Hartford, New York with his wife Erin. Smith works in oil and his subject matter ranges from still-life to portraiture with a special focus on the landscape. It has been said of Smith’s work: “Not just ‘a scene’ but a real statement about something, yet not forced or melodramatic.” Smith currently exhibits at Gallery 3040 in Old Forge, New York.
“I am an artist. The outdoors is my studio although it hasn’t always been so. My early instruction was in-studio and led to full-time atelier training. I learned much from a great teacher there but also discovered my true passion was elsewhere. I then turned my attention to outdoor work and have never looked back. In the field I find constant inspiration; whether it be a specific atmosphere, color of light, or the subject itself at a certain point in the season. My hope is that the viewer will find a kinship with how I see the world, its light its shade, its moods hour by hour.”
