Shaun Horne was brought up on a dairy farm in upstate New York. He graduated from SUNY at Stony Brook with a degree in Evolutionary Biology and a minor in Studio Art. Highly interested in plein air painting, Shaun entered the Colorado State University art program, earning a second Bachelor's degree in painting in 1997 and nearly a Master's degree in paining in 2001. While at CSU, he taught the upper division painting course and discovered he did not want to teach; he wanted to be outside painting.
Shaun met and married his wife Dawn Cohen, a painter too, at CSU. In 2002 they moved with their baby daughter to beautiful Crested Butte, Colorado, where they added a second daughter to their family.
Shaun paints outdoors over 1000 hours a year, making about 50 large-scale realist plein air landscapes in all weathers in the mountains of Colorado and the desert of Utah.
And he’s doing exactly what he set out to do.
