“What am I trying to convey in my paintings? Light, light, light, and a moment in time. Perhaps its a feeling of place and a smell in the air that moves me. Maybe I pick a place to paint for its complexity and grit, texture or the shape of light upon things. It could be that I am moved to paint subjects that are in danger of disintegration or tell a story of better days, leaving the viewer to imagine the past while treasuring the present moment.  Or maybe I just want my paintings to take you back home somehow.”

Shelby Keefe is a nationally recognized, award-winning impressionist painter, teacher and performance artist. Born in Whitewater, WI in 1958, she graduated in 1981 with a BFA from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, WI. Always painting even while working as a graphic designer, it was in 2005 when her success as a painter allowed her to become a full-time fine artist. She now travels around the country painting, teaching and competing in plein air events as well as producing work in her studio/gallery in the Third Ward in Milwaukee, WI. She is becoming noticed nationally, having been recently published in Southwest Art and Plein Air Magazines–both being honored as the cover artist. Her paintings are being collected around the country as well as in corporate surroundings and public spaces. www.studioshelby.com
