The earliest known working photographer based out of Crested Butte was C.F. Blacklidge. His cabinet card in this exhibition depicts a mining claim in the Slate River Valley. Photographers in the 1880s found work documenting mining claims, advertising for railroads, and capturing views of the surrounding landscapes.
