“What is the color of an object? Each has its own color, changed by the color of the light falling on it and modified by the color next to it. While drawing is the soul of art, color is its playground, where the artist can let his imagination run free.”

Roy Andersen is one of America’s most celebrated and recognizable western artists. Known for his meticulously accurate depiction of Native Americans and his daring embrace of color, his work can be seen in top private and museum collections across the country.

His fascination with and research into all things western informed his entire body of work. Anderson’s intimate knowledge of his subjects give his paintings a level of authenticity rarely found in western art. This holds true from his early career as a muralist, stamp designer, and highly successful illustrator and into his last thirty-four years living in Arizona and working as a first rate Western painter.

Andersen was inducted into the Cowboy Artists of America in 1989 and in 1991, he won the
Gold Medal in the Oil Category at the 25th Annual CAA Exhibition.
